Native Highlight: Boston Food Gram

What does Neuroscience, dentistry, and food all have in common? They are what define Emily Chan, the owner behind the popular Boston food account Boston Food Gram (@bostonfoodgram). She didn't let graduating with a degree in neuroscience, and a future in dentistry stop her from enjoying her passion for the Boston food scene and sharing it with the world!

Read on for a behind the scenes look of an Instagram food blogger and find out about Emily's favorite spots!

The Inspiration Behind The Account

I began my food instagram while studying abroad in Copenhagen called @emchaneats. It was so much fun to travel, try different cuisines, and share those experiences with friends on Instagram.

Let's just add "well-traveled" to her resume! Emily always had a love for food, but she discovered a way to creatively share that with friends and followers. What started as @emchaneats, aimed at documenting her study abroad in Copenhagen, quickly turned into a way she could share quality photos of the vast landscape of quality meals in the Boston area.

The Boston Food Scene

I think Boston has been quickly developing a more diverse food culture. There are always new restaurants and cuisines to try, especially in Cambridge and Seaport. In addition, restaurant owners, chefs, waitstaff, and other bloggers I have met in Boston have been so welcoming and kind! It has been so natural to connect with people in the food community here!

Emily really enjoys the tight knit community that the Boston food scene holds. She has met some truly amazing individuals that share her passion for food and are committed to spreading how great the Boston community is to the rest of the world!

Living oxymoron

Currently, I am a research coordinator for multiple sclerosis studies but will be attending dental school this summer (surprising since I post a lot of desserts)! Brushing after eating sweets is critical for me!

My sister always makes fun of me because I like to edit pictures at night and sometimes fall asleep with my DSLR! Oops!

Talk about an oxymoron! A dentist that loves sweets?! If anything, Emily is a proponent for bringing light to the world that having good oral hygeine and loving dessert can coexist! That's huge news!

We also love the commitment she has that even through sleep deprivation, she is still out there helping us discover the best Boston has to offer.

Why You Need To Follow @bostonfoodgram Right Now

I am a big believer in quality over quantity when it comes to Instagram. If you follow me, you will only get my best best pictures on your feed! I also try to post aesthetic pictures of all different types of cuisines to appeal to anyone’s palate. I’m sure you will be inspired to add many new places to your restaurant list!

We agree with the quality over quantity. In a world where everyone is competing for your attention, many go with the spread and pray approach to gain your attention. It ends up creating a ton of noise, but Emily focuses on only posting quality photos that give you the real perspective of the place.

If you get the bibimbap, get it pan fried!! You can also add cheese to anything. You will never regret going here!

2) Union Square Donuts

409 Harvard St, Brookline, MA 0244
